Schools Tennis Festival a Resounding Success at Westway

650 children from 10 local schools took part in a tennis extravaganza on the 1st July at Westway Sports Centre.

Sixteen WIN Tennis and Westway coaches ran the event, one of the biggest of its kind ever held at Westway. The Westway apprentices and members of the Tennis Leaders coaching programme also helped coordinate tennis-related circuits and 192 mini tennis matches were played throughout the day.

Mr Hamid Elouahabi, Schools Sports Coordinator at Oxford Gardens Primary School, commented, ‘some of the children have never been on a court… this is tremendous for the local community and it breaks down barriers’.

Edward Weekes, WIN at Westway Schools Tennis Coordinator, said he would like to draw more children into the sport and see more of them taking it up regularly. 'We want to give kids a positive experience of tennis – kids who wouldnt think of playing or might not get the opportunity'.
